Checking up on QB Commit Scott McCummings…

Scott McCummings, the dual threat 6’2″ 209 lb senior QB from Natick, Mass (Flutie Flakes? Yes, that Natick), who gave his commitment to UConn in August, is following up his strong Junior season with an even better Senior Campaign.

Natick is off to an 8-0 start, outscoring their opponents thus far by a score of 320 to 49.

McCummings is hitting on 52% (51/99) of his passes, for 1212 yards (folks…that’s 12.3 yards per attempt), with 10 TD passes to 4 interceptions.   He has also rushed 49 times, for 558 yards (11.4 ypc)  and  6 TD’s.

UConn is clearly making an effort to get more mobile at the quarterback position.  Both 2009 commits Mike Box and Leon Kinnard are dual threats, and UConn reportedly extended scholarship offers to the following 2010 QB’s all of which are considered to be dual threats):

Terrence Broadway (Commit, Houston), Anthony Gonzalez (Commit, Pittsburgh), Stephen Morris (Commit, Miami),  Tyler Smith (Commit, Maryland), Ricardo Young (Commit, Virginia Tech), and of course, Scott McCummings.

You think all the Pat White nightmares over the years have given the staff an idea or two about what works on the college level?

UConn offered McCummings early in the  process, an indication he was one of their top targets.  Scott also had offers to play at Syracuse and Harvard.  Ultimately it came down to Harvard and UConn, and the Huskies won out.  Stanford, according  to McCumming’s high school coach, made serious overtures, though it is unclear whether they extended an offer.

Harvard vs. UConn. Reminds me of the tough decision I had too make when choosing a college… NOT.

Kid looks good in the video. Granted it is a highlight video but looks like he has some wheels. Would be good to have the dual threat as you say.
