NBA Round Up…

in UCONN NBA

The Wizards fell to the Pacers, 86-102, in Indy Friday night.  Caron Butler had a big night, he led all scorers with 24 points, and also posted 12 rebounds.  A.J. Price finally saw some action, playing 11 minutes.  A.J. was instrumental in the run that ultimately put the game out of reach…Washington had widdled a 13 point lead down to 8, when Tyler Hansbrough scored 4 consecutive points, and Price followed with two consecutive 3 pointers, inflating the Pacers lead to 18.  The Wizards fell to 2-4, while the Pacers improved to 2-3.

Orlando did indeed avenge their only loss, downing the Pistons 110-103 last night in Orlando.  Charlie Villanueva led all scorers with a season high 28 and Ben Gordon had 19 points and 5 assists…but in the end Dwight Howard was too much, posting 22 and 12.  The Pistons sit at 2-4, Orlando moved to 5-1.  Rip Hamilton was again out with an ankle.

New Jersey was unable to avoid their first 0-6 start in team history,  falling 94-67 to the 76ers (3-2).  Josh Boone played very well in his 17 minutes, scoring 8 points on 4/5 shooting, and added 7 rebounds, an assist, and a block.  Boone has posted back to back impressive games, and may see his minutes increase if continues to play like this.  Head Coach Lawrence Frank has no problem mixing and matching…especially for an 0-6 team.

The Suns handed the Celtics their first loss of the season last night at the Garden, 110-103.  Phoenix led by 6 at the half, a lead which Boston cut to 2 at the end of 3, but ultimately the Celts comeback bid came up short.  The Suns Jason Richardson was too much, scoring 34…Richardson was 6-7 from downtown. Ray Allen had a highlight reel dunk, and had 16 points on 7/11 shooting…Ray was 2/4  from deep.  The Celts sit at 6-1, the Suns 5-1.

New Orleans fell at home to the Raptors, 107-90.  The Hornets actually led by 2 at the half, but a 34-14 third quarter by the Raptors put the game away.  Emeka Okafor couldn’t get it going, scoring just 6 points and 8 rebounds in 30 minutes.  On a bright note, Hilton Armstrong played perhaps his best game of the season…posting season highs in both points (7) and rebounds (6), in just 18 minutes.  The Hornets are off to a slow start at 2-4, the Raptors improved to 3-2.

The Rockets proved to be too much for the youthful Thunder last night in Houston…Oklahoma City fell 94-105.  Kevin Ollie played 14 minutes, scoring 2 points, and adding a rebound and an assist.   OK City falls to 2-3, while Houston moves to 4-2.

The Lakers knocked off the Grizzlies, 114-98.  Rudy Gay did his best, leading the Grizzlies in scoring with 22 points, on 8/16 shooting.  Rudy landed himself at #4 on ESPN’s top 10 plays from Friday night, with a monster jam…Both Marcus Williams and Hasheem Thabeet played 1 minute…neither accumulated any stats…The Lakers are off to a 5-1 start, the Grizzlies 1-5.

Seeing these updates is making me realize the impact UConn has on the NBA night in and night out. Its crazy.

And I hear the occasional comment from idiots talking about how Calhoun has lost a step and asking when he is going to hang it up.

You’ll notice I use phrases like “Rudy Gay led his team in scoring” and “Caron Butler led all scorers” on a night in, night out basis….

Amazing impact really…all from one program….
