UConn 56, Syracuse, 31

Syracuse came into the game with the 9th ranked run defense in the nation, allowing just 93 yards per game.  They left ranked 14th, with a 102 yards against average.  The Huskies torched the Orange on the ground, carrying 41 times for 204 yards.  The total was the second most allowed by Syracuse this season, Pittsburgh ran for 247 in their 37-10, November 13th win.

Jordan Todman went over 100 yards for the 5th time this season, and third game in a row.  His 123 yards were the most yards Syracuse allowed to a single back this season (Dion Lewis, Pitt 110), and put him over 1000 for the season.  Andre Dixon scored 3 touchdowns in rushing for 73 yards on 15 carries.  Dixon is 83 yards from 1000 himself.

What can you say about Marcus Easley? 6 more catches for 105 yards, and two touchdowns.  Over the past 7 games he is averaging 101 yards, and a touchdown.   Easley is making a strong case for some Sunday football, and it was reported by Zac Boyer of UConnreport.com that scouts from both the Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets were in the house.  Nice.

Zach Frazer was solid in throwing for 173 yards on 13 of 21 passing,  two touchdowns and one interception.  The conditions were difficult to throw in, the wind was gusting upwards of 30 mph.

True freshman Mike Lang returned a kick for a touchdown.  It was Lang’s second touchdown this season, he caught a touchdown vs Rhode Island.  The kick return TD was the Huskies third this season.

The defense didn’t play particularly well in this one, especially in the secondary.  Wide receivers were open all day, and Syracuse’s Greg Paulus took advantage.  Paulus threw for for 296 yards on 24 of 32 passing, and two touchdowns.  Redshirt freshman Dwayne Gratz scored the first touchdown of his career when he scooped and scored on a fumble in the waning moments.  Lawrence Wilson continued his stellar season, adding another 17 tackles, and pushing his season total to 130.  His 11.82 tackles per game are tops in the Big East, and third nationally.  Wilson has a bright future on Sundays.  Greg Lloyd injured his knee, and is questionable for next Saturday’s game.  Hopefully it’s nothing to serious and he is able to return for the bowl game.

The 56 points were the most ever scored by UConn in a Big East Conference game.

With the win the Huskies became bowl eligible for the third straight season.

Next Up : South Florida, Rentschler Field Saturday December 5th 8 PM.

Had the opportunity to sit at the 50 yesterday about 15 rows up. Starting to expect us to take one to the house on a kickoff in every game now.

Sidenote, I know this may be blasphemy for a UConn fan but I respect Paulus. Really seemed like a leader out there. Must be nice to know you can play hoops for a top program as well as QB in the Big East.

Paulus played very well, made some really nice throws. He still went to Duke…and was better at flopping than playing basketball. It had to be said…
