QB BJ Daniels has over 2300 total yards this season
Although this seems to be a classic case of two teams moving in opposite directions, the Bulls are dangerous. Ask West Virginia.
Freshman QB B.J. Daniels has been inconsistent, but is ultra-athletic, and can make things happen on broken plays. Daniels has thrown for 1606 yards on 51.3% passing, 12 TD’s and 9 picks…but here’s where it gets tricky…he has 147 carries for 710 yards and 6 TD’s. I’m glad Lawrence Wilson is from Krypton, and Scott Lutrus (Brookfield Zoo) appears to be healthy, and back to his old tricks…
Daniels’ 710 yards leads the Bulls, but senior running back Moise Plancher has been effective as well. Plancher has 539 yards on 117 carries (4.6 per), and 5 TD’s. The Bulls, however, may be without starting junior center Sampson Genus for this one…and that hurts. About a month ago the Bulls lost starting guard Zach Hermann, who was diagnosed with a bulging disc in his neck. The Bulls come into this one thin on the line…something that won’t help as they try to establish the run, and they may need to if the weather is as bad as some are predicting
The Bulls leading wide receiver Carlton Mitchell returned last week after missing two games with a high ankle sprain. Mitchell had just one catch for 22 yards vs Miami. On the season Mitchell has 30 catches for 563 yards and 4 TD’s. It’s not clear how much of a role he’ll have in this one…he is definitely not at 100%.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Bulls are hoping their senior linebacker Kion Wilson, is able to go. He too is battling an ankle injury, one he suffered last week vs Miami. Wilson’s 98 tackles lead the team..if he can’t go, true freshman Sam Barrington will get the nod. Barrington has played well, and drawn high praise from the USF coaching staff. Barrington’s 31 tackles are good for 8th on the team.
Defensive Ends George Selvie and Jason Pierre-Paul will provide plenty of pass rush..our tackles have traditionally fared pretty well against the Bulls…lets see if that holds true tonight…
South Florida has been excellent against the pass this year, they rank 23rd in the nation in pass yards allowed per game with just 187.91. The secondary is led by a couple of seniors…cornerback Jerome Murphy has 3 picks, and safety Nate Allen has 4. The Huskies will look to pound the rock, as usual.
Andre Dixon, comes into this one needing just 83 yards to crack 1000. How sweet would it be for him to do that on his final night at the Rent? USF plays the run okay, ranking 55th in yards per game, with 138.73…that bodes well for the Huskies who rolled up over 200 vs Syracuse, who was allowing just 87 per game previously. Jordan Todman and Dixon should finish the regular season with a bang…
Senior Night festivities start at 7:48 PM, let’s all try to get in early and give the kids the applause they deserve.
The game will be televised nationally on ESPN 2 at 8:00 ET.
