UConn NBA Friday night round up

by Mike Grant on December 5, 2009

Hedo Turkoglu hit a jumper with 8 seconds left in overtime to lift the Raptors over the Wizards 109-107.  Caron Butler scored 16 points, and had 5 assists without a turnover.  Not the best night shooting, 4-11, but he did go 7-7 from the stripe.   Gilbert Arenas led all scorers with 34, but in the end it wasn’t enough.  Washington drops to 7-11…they’ll be in Chicago tomorrow night to face the Bulls.

Look out for the Hornets, who were able to tread water and go 5-5 while Chris Paul was out.  Well, Paul is back , and he is back in a big way.  He scored 16 points, had 8 steals and dished 15 assists.  Nice.  Emeka Okafor continued his hot play, scoring 17 points, grabbing 13 boards and blocking 3 shots.   Hilton Armstrong grabbed 4 boards in 11 minutes.  The Hornets are 8-11 and showing signs of life…they are back in action Tuesday vs Sacramento.

The Pistons beat the Bucks 105-96, in Charlie Villanueva’s return.  Villanueva scored 9 points, on 4-6 shooting in just 17 minutes.  Ben Gordon scored his 16 points in just 22 minutes, as he continues to work back from a sprained ankle.  Nice win for the Pistons, they needed it…they improve to 7-12.  They’ll face Caron and the Wizards Sunday.

Break up the Nets!  Off the schneid…1-18, as they knocked off the Bobcats, 97-91.  Josh Boone played 33 minutes in this one…he didn’t contribute much offensively, but he helped out big time on the defensive end.  Boone grabbed 7 boards and blocked 3 shots.   Congrats to the Nets…they’ll look to make it two in row when they cross the river to face the Knicks on Sunday.

The Celtics got yet another road win, their ninth in ten tries, with a 105-87 romp over the Thunder.  Ray Allen scored 11 points on 4-11 shooting.   Kevin Garnett led the Celtics with 23 points.  Kevin Durant scored 36 in a losing effort.  The C’s improved to 16-4 overall…they’ll get a nice three day weekend now, and are back in action Tuesday at home vs the Bucks.

How about those Grizzlies?  Nice win over the Mavericks Friday night, 98-82.  Rudy Gay scored 18 points on 7-18 shooting, and grabbed 6 boards.  Hasheem Thabeet played a career high 17 minutes, and played quite well.  He scored 4 points on 1-2 shooting, went 2-2 from the stripe, blocked 2 shots and grabbed 5 boards.  Progress.  Marcus Williams didn’t have much of a roll in this one, he played a couple of minutes but did not accumulate any stats.  Memphis improved to 8-12…they’ll face the LeBron’s Tuesday night at home.
