The Big East announced their postseason awards today, and there was a blatant omission.
First, the good news:
Jr guard Zach Hurd was named first team offense.
Sr defensive end Lindsey Witten, and Jr linebacker Lawrence Wilson were named first team defense.
Both Sr running back Andre Dixon, and Soph running back Jordan Todman were named second team offense.
Jr linebacker Greg Lloyd and Sr cornerback Robert McClain were named second team defense.
The late Jasper Howard was named as the honorary captain of both the first and second team defenses. A really nice gesture. His name will forever be on the 2009 teams. It should be, I have no doubt Jasper was on his way to an All-Conference type year.
That’s the good…the bad? No Marcus Easley.
Let’s dissect, shall we?
The first team WR’s named were Cincinnati’s Mardy Gilyard, and Pitt’s Jonathan Baldwin.
Gilyard had 1150 yards and 11 TD’s, overall. In Big East play, he had 620 yards and 3 TD’s.
Baldwin had 1080 yards and 8 TD’s, overall. In Big East play, he had 615 yards and 6 TD’s.
The second team WR’s named were Cincinnati’s Armon Binns, and Rutgers’ Tim Brown.
Binns had 859 yards and 10 TD’s for the season. In Big East play he had 559 yards and 8 TD’s.
Tim Brown had 1051 yards and 8 TD’s. In Big East play he had 584 yards and 6 TD’s. Get this, of Brown’s 1051 yards, 458 of them came against Howard, Florida International, Texas Southern and Army. Two FCS teams, Army and FIU. Really? Second team all Big East?
Let’s compare all of the above to Marcus Easley. Easley had 853 yards and 8 TD’s on the season, and here’s the important part. 760 of those 853 happened in conference play, and all of his 8 TD’s did as well. Easley led the Big East in conference play receiving yards, and was tied with Binns for the league lead in TD’s!
