UConn NBA Friday night wrap

in UCONN NBA

This is getting silly now…the Nets fell to the Raptors, 118-95.  This one was over when it started, New Jersey was outscored 39-15 in the first quarter.  Seriously?  Josh Boone scored 2 points in 17 minutes.  The 2-25 Nets are on pace for the NBA’s worst record in league history…the 1972-73 76ers were 9-73.  The Nets host the Lakers tonight…Hello 2-26…

The Hornets got a nice home victory last night, 98-92 over the Nuggets.  Chris Paul went off…30 points, 19 assists, 9 boards.   Emeka Okafor scored 9 points and grabbed 12 boards, Hilton Armstrong did not play.  With the win the Hornets improved to 12-13 overall, and 10-3 at home.  They’ll be in action Sunday afternoon in Toronto.

There was too much Kevin Durant Friday night, he scored 27 points in leading the Thunder over the Pistons, 109-98.  The Pistons were without both Richard Hamitlon (hammy), and Ben Gordon (ankle), again.  Charlie Villanueva scored 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.  The Pistons drop to 11-15…they need to get healthy, they’ll host the Lakers on Sunday.

Rudy Gay scored 18 points as the Grizzlies downed the Pacers, 107-94.   Hasheem Thabeet scored 2 points, clocked and shot and grabbed an rebound in 10 minutes.  Marcus Williams did not make an appearance, but his former UConn teammate A.J. Price, did.  Price played just 4 minutes, and did not score.   The 11-15 Grizz will host the Nuggets on Sunday evening.

The Wizards snapped their 6 game losing streak with a 118-109 win over Golden State.  Caron Butler had a big night, scoring 28 points on 13-23 shooting, and grabbing 10 rebounds, but he wasn’t the star for Washington on this night.   Gilbert Arenas went crazy…scoring 45 points, and dishing 13 assists…wow.  Washington improved to 8-16, they’re back at it tonight in Phoenix.

The Celtics lost for just the 5th time this season, 98-97, to the 76ers.  The loss was the C’s 4th Friday night home loss on the season…uncanny.  Ray Allen scored 17 points, on 7 of 17 shooting…he was 3 of 8 from deep.  Allen hit the go ahead lay up with under a minute to play, but the 76ers would again take the lead…Allen had a shot a game winning fade-away jumper at the buzzer, but it wasn’t to be.   The C’s will look to start another winning streak Sunday night vs Minnesota.
