UConn (11-3, 2-1) @ Georgetown (11-2, 2-1) 12 pm ET ESPN

The Huskies look to snap a three game skid vs Georgetown, as they visit the 11-2, #12 ranked Hoyas. The Hoyas are 2-0 vs ranked opponents, downing Butler 72-65, and Washington 74-66. They also knocked off Temple 46-45 before the Owls were ranked. Georgetown is 2-1 in the Big East, posting a 66-59 win over St.John’s, and a 67-50 win over DePaul.   They lost 61-57 to Old Dominion on December 19th, and most recently fell on the road to Marquette 62-59.

Georgetown is getting it done on the defensive end, they allow just 57.8 points per game, which is tops in the Big East. They rank third in field goal percent defense with .379, the Huskies allow a league best .369.

The Hoyas are amongst the leaders in shooting in the league, ranking second in field goal percentage with a .495 mark. They rank towards the bottom of the league with just 35.7 rebounds per game, but funny enough they allow a league best 29.8 rpg, their +5.9 rebound margin is good for 7th.

The Hoyas have four players averaging in double figures, with three of them averaging over 14 points per game.

Sophomore center Greg Monroe is averaging 14.4 points and 9.8 rebounds, and has scored in double figures in 11 of the Hoyas 13 games.   He scored a season high 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds vs Butler.  He scored 9 points in the loss to Marquette, which tied for his season low.

Junior guard Chris Wright is also averaging 14.4 ppg, while averaging 3.8 assists.   Wright put up a ridiculous 34 points in an 86-70 win over Harvard on December 23rd.  Wright scored 16 points in last season’s 74-63 win over the Huskies.

Another junior guard,  Austin Freeman is averaging 14.1 ppg.  Freeman is the team’s best shooter, posting an impressive .497  mark from the field, .422 from deep, and .941 from the stripe.   He scored 20 points in the loss to Marquette.

Sophomore guard Jason Clark, who averaged 5.2 ppg as a freshman, is more than doubling that now, scoring 10.6 per game this season.  He scored 13 points in the win over Washington and 13 points in the win over DePaul.  Clark has hit a team high 25 three pointers at a .397 clip.

The Huskies are 0-2 vs ranked opponents this season but look like they are starting to play some really good basketball.   Should be a good one…

Best half of the year for UConn. Stanley R is playing himself into the NBA Lottery.

Yes it was. It’s not over yet though…I wasn’t crazy about GTown scoring the final four points of the half. Stanley looks like the best athlete we’ve ever had.
