UConn wide receiver Marcus Easley had himself a good weekend at the NFL Scouting Combine, almost certainly improving his draft stock. The Stratford, CT native turned in the 7th fastest 40 time time by a wide receiver, with a 4.46. He finished tied for 8th in bench press reps with 16, and tied for 4th in the broad jump, with a 10’3″. His 11.5 second 60 yard shuttle was also good for 4th.
Combine numbers aside, he caught everything thrown his way, including running two perfect “Gauntlet” drills, an excercise which the wide receivers run a straight line and catch balls thrown from both their left and right sides.
He showed soft hands on the corner and “9″ routes, locating the ball well and catching it with his fingertips.
ESPN’s Todd McShay liked what he saw : “Easley showed good explosiveness with a 10-3 broad jump and there is a lot to like about the way he tracks deep passes. Easley is a former walk-on with limited game experience, but he clearly has the raw tools to warrant midround consideration as a developmental project.”
The 2010 NFL Draft kicks off Thursday April 22nd at 7:30 PM.
