UConn NBA Shootaround : Butler, Mavericks Finding Their Groove

The Mavericks continue to roll, as they downed Charlotte 89-84.  Caron Butler is settling into his new role nicely, he scored 22 points on 10-16 shooting.  The Mavs have won 8 of 9 since acquiring Butler and Brendan Haywood, and they’ve won 8 in a row.  At 40-21 Dallas has moved into sole possession of 2nd place in the Western Conference, 5.5  games behind the Lakers.  The Mavs will host Minnesota Wednesday night.

Emeka  Okafor scored 18 points but the Hornets came up short, falling to San Antonio, 106-92.  Okafor also grabbed 7 boards and blocked 2 shots.  Rookie Darren Collison continues to play well in Chris Paul’s absence, scoring 10 points and dishing 15 assists.  Tim Duncan scored 22 points and pulled down 9 boards for the Spurs.  The loss dropped New Orleans to 31-30, they’ll host Rudy Gay and the Grizzlies Wednesday night.

Speaking of Rudy Gay, he scored 19 points in a 103-93 loss to Portland.  Gay was 8-16 from the field, grabbed 7 boards and had two blocked shots.  Marcus Williams scored 5 points and pulled down 5 rebounds in 15 minutes.  The Grizzlies are 30-30, 4.5 games out of the 8th and final playoff spot. 

The Rockets downed the Raptors 116-92.  Hilton Armstrong did not score in 6 minutes, although he notch two steals.  Houston will host Sacramento Wednesday night.
