Niels Giffey
Mike Anthony of the Hartford Courant is reporting that Niels Giffey, a 6’6″ forward from Germany, is on campus.
UPDATE – So apparently Mike Anthony’s info was off, and Giffey didn’t actually visit until now. Good news, he committed, reportedly choosing the Huskies over Gonzaga, UCLA, Michigan and Louisville.
The reports now have Giffey at 6’7″, who will be coming in to play wing. Slightly odd because the Huskies have Jamal Coombs-McDaniel entering his sophomore year, and top recruit Roscoe Smith coming in next year to play the same position. Further complicating things is 2011 commit Maurice Harkless, who is also slated to play the 3. I’m sure one or more of them will play minutes at the 2, but at any rate it’s a good problem to have.

Good pickup? Bad?
His video looks very promising…it's really hard to formulate an opinion on him because he's not playing against American players, which he will be next fall. I'd like to say we should trust Calhoun's judgement, but unfortunately we've had some swings and misses lately. The reports of the four other schools going after him are promising also. We're going to have to wait and see with Niels…see how his game translates in the States…
