Ray Allen Sets Record, Leads Celtics to Game 2 Victory

Celtics 103,    Lakers 94

The league’s sweetest stroke was on display in Los Angeles Sunday night as Ray Allen scored a game high 32 points and hit a Finals record eight three pointers.  Allen was 8 of 11 from beyond the arc and 11 of 20 from the floor.  He scored 27 points in the first half and hit his first seven three point attempts.

Allen cooled (how could he not?) in the second half and Rajon Rondo took over.  Rondo recorded his fifth career playoff triple-double, scoring 19 points while pulling down 12 boards and dishing 10 assists.  He made a couple of stellar defensive plays late in the fourth quarter, blocking a Derek Fisher three attempt and stripping Kobe Bryant of the ball with under a minute to play and just a six point lead.

This was a big win for the Celtics because both Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett had dreadful offensive nights.   Pierce scored 10 points on 2-11 shooting while Garnett notched just 6 points on 2-5.   Garnett did have three fourth quarter assists and six for the game.

Only three Lakers scored in double figures in this one.  Kobe Bryant and former UConn commit Andrew Bynum each scored 21, and Pau Gasol scored a team high 25.

Tied at a game a piece, the series shifts to Boston where play will resume Tuesday night.
