David Stevenson
Eddie Shannon of uconnreport.com is reporting that 5’9″ 160 lb CB David Stevenson has committed to Connecticut, giving the Huskies their third commitment of the week. Stevenson is yet another product of Georgia, a state where UConn appears to have opened up a nice pipeline. UConn has added 10 players from Georgia since the 2006 recruiting class : 2006 Terrence Jeffers and Derek Rich. 2007 Kelmetrus Wylie and Gary Wilburn. 2008 Corey Manning and AJ Portee. 2009 Mike Box. 2010 Geremy Davis and Taylor Mack.
Stevenson is a burner, winning the Overall MVP at March’s National Underclassman Combine in Atlanta, where he ran a 4.47 forty, and posted a 34.5″ vertical and a 4.04 second shuttle.
Barry Every of Rivals.com made the following observations at that event :
ASSETS: Has excellent speed, change of direction and above-average ball skills.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Lacks the ideal height for a corner, so adding more muscle mass and size is a must.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Ran the second fastest 40 at 4.47 and the fastest shuttle at 4.04. Stevenson proved to be the top cover corner in the final showcase procuring the camp Overall MVP.
CONCLUSION: Let’s face it, speed kills. Colleges will take a chance on a slightly smaller corner with good cover skills and good athleticism.
Stevenson chose the Huskies over offers from Buffalo, Marshall, Southern Miss and Troy, and was receiving interest from Georgia Tech, Middle Tennessee State, Western Kentucky and Indiana.
