It’s Time for the State’s Top Talent to Stay Home

Stewart told Desmond Conner UConn is his #1 Choice

It’s time for the wall to go up around the Nutmeg State.  Connecticut is no longer the new kid on the block when it comes to big time college football.  The stripes have been earned, banners have been raised, major college programs have been defeated…it is time for the Graham Stewarts of the world to stay home.

Last off-season the Huskies took one on the chin when Khairi Fortt and Silas Redd opted for Penn State, and let’s not forget the open wound that Aaron Hernandez left when he opted for Florida.  It’s not that Connecticut hasn’t had it’s success recruiting at home, because it has, but more often than not, the state’s most sought after target gets away.

Graham Stewart says the Huskies are in the lead, and with offers from Boston College, Syracuse, Florida State and heavy interest coming from Iowa and apparently now Florida, it’s apparent that Stewart is emerging as the State’s top target for 2011.

It’s time.

The list of accomplishments are mounting up for the Huskies.  Multiple bowl wins, a win in South Bend, a share of a Big East title, a win over Spurrier’s Gamecocks, kids being drafted left and right, Donald Brown playing in the Super Bowl, Darius Butler is getting Pick-Sixes for the Patriots…you get the picture.  The football team has arrived.  There is nothing a Connecticut kid can’t accomplish by staying home.  Nothing.   Ironically it was Stratford’s Marcus Easley who was drafted ahead of Bristol’s Hernandez.  I’m not saying…I’m just saying.
