Rich Rod says Robinson has Pat White-like abilities

We’re less than a month away from the visit to the Big House and Michigan has yet to name their starting QB.   Whether Tate Forcier gets the nod or not, UConn will most certainly have to deal with Denard (Shoelace) Robinson for X amount of plays.  So who is this Shoelace character?

Another classic Rich Rod Florida athlete, Robinson was rated four stars by Rivals.com as a senior, and the 188th ranked player in the country.  He’s smallish at 6’0″ 180, but he’s a burner (4.48 speed) with excellent  improv skills, so he can float around to find throwing lanes.  Rich Rod compared him to Pat White, saying “they have a lot of the same abilities”.  Great.

He got some burn last season as a true freshman but saw limited success throwing the ball.  He was 14-31 for 188 yards, and threw two TD’s and four picks.   He did however run the ball very effectively…69 carries for 351 yards (5.1 per) and five TD’s.  We should note that his three best rushing performances came against Western Michigan (74 yards), Eastern Michigan (60 yards) and wait for it…Delaware State (54 yards).  So 188 of his 351 yards, and four of his five rushing TD’s came against suspect competition, however, he did carry nine  times for 54 yards vs Iowa, and seven times for 36 yards vs Wisconsin, so it wasn’t all smoke and mirrors.

So what’s with the Shoelace moniker?  Well, apparently Robinson got the nickname in pee wee football because he never ties his cleats.  Still doesn’t.  Okay…I guess.

Here’s a look at Robinson’s 43 yard TD scamper vs Western Michigan (Warning, Mike Patrick had the call) :

And here’s every snap Robinson took at the Michigan spring game :

There not naming a starter until the very last minute, they do not want us to know who it is going to be??? Com'on Man, this tactic is as old as the Day is long. He more then likely will be the starter, I'm sure Coach edsall is well aware of , and Preped for Michigan! My hope is DJ shoelace, has really given Coach Edsall and the staff some really good insider info on Michigan, and that he will be able to get His team mates to go into a stadium of 110,000 fans, and be able to get them to stay focused and play strong. DJ Shoemate could very well be the " X-Factor Here for the Dawgs!"
