Game Notes : Todman Off and Running

I’m not going to wax poetic about how good the Huskies looked yesterday.  They faced an inferior opponent and did exactly what they should have, they dominated.

What I found noteworthy is how good Jordan Todman looked, not just yesterday, but through the first two weeks.  151 yards on 15 carries in the first half yesterday, bringing his season total to 256 yards on just 35 attempts (7.3 ypc).  Dude was off the chain last year and looks even better this year.  Stronger.

Zach Frazer did his thing yesterday: 6-9 for 104 yards and two touchdowns.  The funny thing is two of the incompletions should have been caught.  One was a well thrown bomb to a wide open Mike Smith who had the pass go off his fingertips, and the other a deep out to Kashif Moore who also couldn’t corral it.  Frazer looked accurate and confident.  No complaints here.  Side note : Dude looks huge out there…all of the 6’4″ 230 lbs  he’s listed at.

The starting defense played well, allowing just one first down in the first half.  Jory Johnson looked really good, as did Sio Moore who came in later.  Moore was active, vocal and into the game.  Kid looked like he was having a lot of fun out there.

Dave Teggart, and this is actually something  important that we can take away from yesterday, looked excellent.  Smooth, confident and dead center all day.  2/2 on field goals and 7/7 on PATs.  All with good form, length and height.  A very encouraging performance.

Both Gary Wilburn and Nick Williams muffed punts, although only Wilburn’s was recovered by Texas Southern.  Williams had a good looking 39 yard punt return in the 2nd quarter.

True freshman Taylor Mack got his first career interception in the 4th quarter…nice job kid.

Notes from around college football Saturday :

ACC  woes :

You think the Big East is off to a bad start?  Check out our ACC friends : Va. Tech, the ACC’s second highest ranked team at #13, is 0-2 following a loss to FCS James Madison yesterday.  Yikes.  #15 ranked Georgia Tech, the ACC’s defending champion lost to Kansas, who scored 3 points last week in a loss to FCS North Dakota State.  Florida State, ranked #17, got walloped in Norman, 47-17.   #12 Miami lost at Ohio State, although not in embarrassing fashion.  Why do the pollsters continue to overrate the ACC teams EVERY preseason?  Folks, if you can find something more useless than preseason rankings let me know.

Michigan 28, Notre Dame 24

Denard Robinson is good, but we knew that.  At least now the college football world knows it wasn’t just us.  Dude broke all of his own records that he set last week.  502 yards total offense, including 258 yards rushing on 28 carries and 244 more passing.  The Heisman watch has officially started…has a sophomore ever won it?

Denard appears to be the real deal huh? Is ND improved over last year?

It's too soon to tell if Notre Dame's defense is improved from last season, but either way, Robinson is the real deal.
